ADI 2021 COVID-19 Protocol
We are dedicated to creating a plan that prioritizes the health and safety of our students and instructors while providing the best speech and debate experience possible. Our plan follows the guidelines from the CDC and Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
Required Daily Screening
Parents of students are required to complete a daily COVID-19 screening test upon arriving at our location each morning. Once at ADI, all instructors and students will take their temperature before entering the building.
Distancing and Face Masks
All sessions are capped at 10 students and 2 instructors to ensure social distancing in our spaces. All students, instructors, and families are required to wear face masks that cover nose and mouth at all times while on camp premises, except for our during designated eating and drinking times and in our designated spaces. Neck gaiters, mesh masks, and masks with exhalation valves are not acceptable. When masks are taken off when eating or drinking outdoors, we will have at least 6 ft. of distance between all students and instructors. Social distancing and face mask-wearing will be strictly monitored for the safety of our camp community. We understand that abiding by these policies may be difficult or uncomfortable for some campers, and we encourage students who have a difficult time with mask-wearing and social distancing for an extended period of time to consider our online program.
Our Summer 2021 in-person sessions will take place at 5 Lexington Dr., Acton, MA. This building has 2 large sliding doors opening up to the outdoors and 5 large windows that allow for open ventilation, and we will provide several large fans to encourage air flow and to maintain a comfortable temperature. There are 2 indoor bathrooms in our space. We will also set up overhead tents and canopies in the large outdoor area to provide shade during our outdoor lunches and activities. To optimize ventilation and utilize outdoor space to promote Covid-conscious safety, we will not be utilizing our regular camp location in a larger indoor space.
As is true of any in-person gathering at this time, we want to prepare for and acknowledge potential risks while also feeling confident that our Covid protocols will effectively keep our camp community safe. If any student is considered a close contact within or outside ADI, they must abide by CDC guidelines and quarantine for 14 days after the last known contact. If any person at an ADI session tests positive, all students and instructors must quarantine for 14 days. In the very unlikely case that an in-person session must shut down for safety reasons, we will turn to an online format for the remainder of the session.
As the warm weather will encourage us to spend more times outdoors, we know families will gradually be more willing to expand their social bubbles. While we hope you and your families are abiding by CDC and MA Dept. of Public Health guidelines and making good choices, we cannot guarantee all of our students and their families strictly follow COVID restrictions. If any member of your family has had an exposure, please be diligent and notify us at ActonDebateInstitute@gmail.com immediately.
Updating our Policy
ADI will continue to monitor COVID-19 on local, national, and global levels and adjust our protocol. Our website will be updated periodically in accordance to changes, and we will announce significant changes to you directly when necessary. We are committed to providing a fun, educational, and most importantly, safe experience for your child this summer.
